2020 ஆம் ஆண்டு, ஆறு தன்னார்வலர்களால் அமெரிக்க ஈகைத் தமிழ்ச் சமூகம் என்ற அமைப்பு தொடங்கப்பட்டது. அப்போது அமெரிக்காவில் கொரோனா பெருந்தொற்று காரணமாகக் குடும்பங்களுடன் வீட்டிற்குள் முடங்கியிருந்த குழந்தைகளின் மன அழுத்தத்தைப் போக்கும் நோக்கத்துடன், அமைப்பின் ஒரு செயல்திட்டமாக “கண்மணியே கதை கேளு” என்ற கதை நேரம் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது. In 2020, an organization named American Eegai Thamizh Community was founded by six volunteers. As part of the organization's initiatives, a storytelling session titled "Kanmaniye Kathai Kelu" (Listen to a Story, My Dear) was launched with the aim of alleviating the stress of children who were confined to their homes with their families in the United States due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
இந்த முயற்சிக்கு நாங்கள் எதிர்பாராத அளவிற்குப் பெரும் வரவேற்புக் கிடைத்தது. அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து பல தமிழ்ப் பெற்றோர்கள், “எங்கள் பகுதியில் குழந்தைகள் தமிழ் கற்பதற்கான வாய்ப்பு இல்லை. எனவே, நீங்கள் ஏன் ஒரு தமிழ்ப் பள்ளியைத் தொடங்கக்கூடாது?” என்று வேண்டுகோள் விடுத்தனர். அந்த வேண்டுகோளின் அடிப்படையிலும் ஏற்கனவே எமக்குள் புதைந்திருந்த சிந்தனையிலும் உருவானதுதான் நமது பாடசாலை. This initiative received an overwhelmingly positive response—far beyond our expectations. Subsequently, many Thamizh parents urged us, saying, "There are no opportunities for children to learn Thamizh in our area; why don't you start a Thamizh school?" Our school was born out of those requests and an idea that had already been taking shape within us.
பாடசாலைக்குப் பெயர் சூட்டியபோது, தமிழ்ப் பண்பாட்டில் பெண்களை முன்னிறுத்துவது மரபு என்பதாலும், தமிழர்கள் தங்கள் மொழியைத் தாயாகப் போற்றும் தனிச்சிறப்பைக் கொண்டிருப்பதாலும், உலகின் முதல் பெண் அறிஞராகப் போற்றப்படும் ஒளவையாரின் பெயர் முன்மொழியப்பட்டது. அதன் அடிப்படையில் நமது பள்ளிக்கு “ஒளவையார் பாடசாலை” என்று பெயரிடப்பட்டது. இன்று, தமிழ்மொழியால் ஒன்றிணைந்த 50க்கும் மேற்பட்ட நிர்வாகக் குழுத் தன்னார்வலர்கள் மற்றும் நூற்றுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட தன்னார்வ ஆசிரியர்களின் அர்ப்பணிப்பான சேவையால், பல நூறு குழந்தைச் செல்வங்கள் நமது பாடசாலையின் வாயிலாகத் தாய்மொழியைப் பயிலும் வாய்ப்பையும் பல்வேறு சிறப்பு பயிற்சி வகுப்புகள் வாயிலாக கலைகள் மற்றும் வாழ்க்கைக் கல்வியையும் பெற்று வருகின்றனர். When naming the school, the name of Avvaiyar—revered as the world’s first female scholar—was proposed, given the tradition in Thamizh culture of placing women at the forefront and the unique distinction Thamizhs hold in cherishing their language as a mother. Accordingly, our school was named "Avvaiyar School." Today, thanks to the dedicated service of over 50 organizing committee volunteers and more than a hundred volunteer teachers—all united by the Thamizh language—hundreds of children are gaining the opportunity to learn their mother tongue through our school, while also acquiring skills in the arts and life education via various specialized training classes.
திரைகடல் ஓடித் திரவியம் தேடி வந்தவர்களும், உயிரைக் காக்க நாட்டிலிருந்து ஓடி வந்தவர்களும் ஒன்றிணைந்து, தமிழைக் காக்க இந்தப் புலம்பெயர் தேசத்தில் இவ்வமைப்பை நிறுவி நடத்தி வருகின்றோம். “எங்கு பிறப்பினும் தமிழன் தமிழனே” என்ற புரட்சிக் கவிஞர் பாரதிதாசனின் வரிகளை நெஞ்சில் நிறுத்தி, தமிழை முன்னிறுத்தி, தாய்மொழிக்கு மதிப்பளித்து, நாளைய தலைமுறை சிறப்பான தலைமுறையாக அமைந்திடவும் அத்தலைமுறை நம்மை நன்றியுடன் நினைவுகூர வேண்டும் என்ற ஒருமித்த சிந்தனையுடன் அனைவரும் சேவையாற்றி வருகின்றோம். We—comprising both those who crossed the seas in search of prosperity and those who fled their homeland to save their lives—have united to establish and run this organization in this adopted land, with the aim of preserving the Thamizh language. Guided by the words of the revolutionary poet Bharathidhasan "Wherever a Thamizh is born, he remains a Thamizh" —we all serve with a shared vision: to champion the Thamizh language, honor our mother tongue, and ensure that the future generation is exceptional—one that will remember us with gratitude.
தமிழ் தழைக்க வேண்டும்; தமிழர்கள் சிறக்க வேண்டும் என்ற உயரிய நோக்கத்துடன், அன்பாலும் மொழியாலும் ஒன்றிணைந்த உறவுகளோடு நமது பாடசாலையின் பயணம் வெற்றிப்பாதையில் தொடர்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது. Driven by the noble vision that Thamizh must flourish and Thamizhs must excel, our school’s journey continues on the path of success, united by bonds of affection and a shared language.
